EBP’s in-school outreach program for Philadelphia students emphasizes theatre as a means of promoting creativity, collaboration, innovation, leadership, and self-confidence.
The program will provide students with a basic theatre vocabulary; a deeper understanding of theatre as an ancient and contemporary art form; and an opportunity to hone their communication and problem-solving skills through collaboration with peers and theatre professionals.
The length and breadth of programming will be determined through conversations with school leadership, students, parents and stakeholders, but may consist of shorter intensives and/or full semesters during which students will work with professional theatre artists in areas of writing, design, and performance.
Focused areas of study may include dramaturgy; generative writing and play writing; lighting, set, and sound design; set construction and dressing; costume design and construction; voice; movement; stage combat; stage management; directing; backstage crew; and front of house management. Each intensive/term will culminate with a staged theatrical production.
